The Mission
What ..
Green computing is the study and practice of efficient and environmentally responsible use of computers and related resources thereby maximizing economic viability and ensuring social commitments.Green computing is very similar to movements like reducing the use of environmentally hazardous materials like CFCs, promoting the use of recyclable materials, minimizing use of non-biodegradable components, and encouraging use of sustainable resources.
Why ..
Green computing, is of interest to not only environmental organizations, but also industry and business community in general. Businesses have come to realize that going green is in their best interest, both in terms of their social responsibility and operational economics. It is a known fact that majority of IT managers focus on cost savings rather than look at environmental impact. But when we look deeper , most of the initiatives for cost savings turn out to be environmentally friendly also !
And how?
| Thinputers Traditional desktop computers are power-hungry and the energy saving that could be made if these were replaced with more energy-efficient "green PCs" is grossly underestimated.More often than not, these desktop computers are also underutilized. Thinputers are low cost , very energy efficient and typically have small footprints. Solid state drives used in these devices render them noiseless and maintenance-free. more ... |

A modern IP-based platform consumes less power than legacy solutions. Unified communications also allows for easier, more direct collaboration eliminating the need for business travel thus reducing an organization's carbon footprint. more ... |
