Workspaces

A workspace is like an account that provides a collection of services (such as phones, email, and network file folders) to an individual, group, or location. There are three types of workspaces:

Personal workspaces — for individuals

Shared workspaces — for groups of people or for a location

Permanent shared workspaces — for receptionists, system administrators, and the company

Each workspace can have the following services:

Phone Service, which gives the workspace an extension number and voice messaging system by default, and can optionally provide a phone.

Email Service, which gives the workspace an email account that you must set up in the email program of your choice.

Network File Folder, which gives the workspace a place to store files on the network.

Figure below illustrates an example of a company with the following workspaces:

• Two shared workspaces (Sales and Conference Room)
• Three personal workspaces for people in the company
• Three permanent workspaces

All users have access to the services and resources of their personal workspace and any shared workspaces to which they belong.
• Sidney Black (sblack) belongs to System Administrators,
Company, and Sales.
• Samantha Brown (sbrown) belongs to Company and Sales.
• Oliver White (owhite) belongs to Company, Reception, and
Sales.
No personal workspaces belong to the Conference Room shared
workspace, which provides phone service to the conference room.
