Firewall and VPN

Internet Firewall

The Internet firewall controls which of the Business Central server’s services, such as email, VPN, and your company Website, are accessible over the Internet, and helps prevent unauthorized people and computers from accessing your internal network from the Internet.

To keep the internal network as secure as possible, any nnecessary services should be blocked.Internet traffic, such as Web pages and email messages, travels from local area network (LAN) to the Internet through Business Central’s firewall. The firewall contains many ports ,each port can allow only one type of Internet service through the firewall and each type of Internet service can pass through its designated port only.If a network device on your LAN, such as a point-of-sale (POS) terminal, debit card machine, or inventory monitoring system, requires third-party access from the Internet, additional ports in firewall have to be opened.

By default, the sutus internet firewall is configured to allow only email services over the internet. The firewall can be configured to easily allow other services like VPN access , public access to web server, remote configuration and administration.

VPN(virtual private network)enables employees to connect securely to your company’s local area network (LAN) from home or other remote locations. When a remote computer is connected to your company’s LAN through a VPN connection, it has the same access to your company’s LAN as a computer at work.Business Central supports two types of VPN connections:

PPTP enables you to connect a remote computer to your company’s LAN. If the remote computer has a softphone installed and configured for your workspace, you can also make and receive calls on your softphone. When PPTP VPN connections are allowed by the Internet firewall, anybody with a personal workspace can connect to your company’s LAN over the VPN.

IPsec requires a special IPsec VPN router at the remote location. With an IPsec VPN connection, multiple computers and desktop VoIP phones can connect to your company’s LAN from a remote location, such as a home office. IPsec VPN connections are allowed on a per-workspace basis.
